A Family In Crisis: A Time To Heal

Alberta H. Sequeira: Author, Speaker & Survivor!

Massachusetts  Conference for Women

This is one event that women have a chance to network, not only other women, but directly to the speakers. Being an author with memoirs on violence and substance abuse, there were numerous spokeswomen on this topic.

There are sessions on health issues, networking, raising children, jobs, careers, writers and author issues.
Topics included: Strategies for Getting a Seat at the Table, The Art of Being Fabulous at Work, Using Social Media to Build Your Brand, Practical Tools to Live an Organized Life and Control your Chaos, The Resilient Leader, Finding Your Unique Way to Give Back, How to Do More with Less, Health & Wellness, Effective Skills and Tools for Accessing Capital, and more.

Career mentors were there to help you with your resumes. Book signing by famous speakers: Judge, Glenda Hatchett, Vitoria Reggie-Kennedy, Elizabeth Lesser, Jessica Herrin, Tory Johnson, and too many to name. Exhibits were available for sales in health issues, finances, banking, etc.

This is an event that is worth going to at least one time. Once you go, you'll be looking forward to the next one the following year.

Hope to see you there in 2011.

Personal Notes from the MA Conference for Women, Dec. 9, 2010

From Speaker Cindy Morrison:

  2.  Get a mentor and be one
  3. Share together
  4. Get excited about what you do
  5. She welcomes emails: Cindy@cindywmorrison.net

Blogging ( 1 ½ hour Session)

1.      Tell your story. Write “good” stories
2.      Build a community relationship by blogging with others
3.      Get a newsletter
4.      Advertise your company
5.      Let people know where you got your info from
6.      Leave a section for comments: Important whether it be a blog or your website: make “Rules” with this section with emails sent to     you: from whom, swearing, etc.
7.      Be authentic and honest
8.      Share experiences
9.      Make this your career
10.  Socialize with networking on the social media mentioned above
11.  Put up videos and photos of yourself or another event
12.  Give marketing ideas on your site so people will return
13.
Think of why you have a blog: What is the purpose? What is it supposed to do?  Market and promote your product.  Do you want a conversation spot? Do you want products for sale on this site, if so, put up paypal. Put a picture up on your products.
Look at other competitor’s blogs. Make yours different.
14.  Most important: add events and news to your blog at least twice a week. Make it the same days of the week. People will come back on those days looking for a change.
15.  They recommended Word Press at the best site because it is easy to put up and easy to add or take things out of. Site:
www.wordpress.com. For an example, go to my blog www.albertasequeira.wordpress.com
16.   Have a side bar (like mine) for help in what your site is about.
17.  Customers come first.
18.  Write shorter notes with bulk. Don’t go on and on with a topic. BORING!
19.  See if you can post your blog site on others and you offer to do theirs. That’s how you grow with followers
20.  List your awards

Networking

Linkedin – best location for a professional site and reaching professionals in your filed
They connect to organizations (keep your resume updated at all times)
List your awards

Face Book- promote your personal profile.
Promote your website, blog and product from here.
Promote your business from this side. There is supposed to be a box on the left side to hit for business (?)
Give another name in Face Book for your professional site or you’ll get just friends and family.
Change profile constantly to give a new fresh page to return visitors
Put on a discussion page
List your awards

Twitter – This is a conversational location.
Show yourself as an expert on your subject and your experience in it
You need to build-up 100+ followers to make the site work for you.
Socialize and communicate with others on this site. List your awards

Google
Not a professional site at all. Best site for professionals Recommended Linkedin and Blogs

Website and Blogs
List all the networks you belong to so professional will know how to contact you and they look for the people connected to all of them.
List any awards, whether it be your book or yourself.

Amazon
Look up your book on Amazon and see who has books listed in your category.  Email the authors and see if they will review your book and you do the same. This way, you may have a NY Best Seller author reviewing your book.  Do the same pulling up the genre yor books are under.

Self-Publish or Traditional
This question was asked to a women who had self-published and got picked up by a traditional publisher.
Self-publishing will give you more royalties and you have more control over your book
Traditional Publishers help get your book and name out there. They may get your book on the bookshelves in bookstores, but you have to get them off it. This goes no matter what way you go. Traditional Publishers give you more support.

Tory Johnson

I took advantage of Tory’s offer for a 3 minute consultation on the mistakes you’re taking and where you’re going with your project.

She said: “It's not often that you make money in selling books at bookstores, being on television or radio shows. You have to “charge for doing other things.” If interviewed, talk about your other services more than your book(s).
