"Have Mercy on Us and the Whole World"
On the Fifth Anniversary, September 11, 2006
This date is remembered by all. Each of us knows where we were and what we were doing when the terrorists attacked our country. It was a time of fear and shock. For a short time our nation went into faith, prayer and unity. We started to realize just how small we are on this planet.
But like most tragedies, they fade into the dust. The crowded churches became empty again. I believe God was trying to shake us up to conversion and belief in Our Eternal Father. We turn to Him so often when disaster hits and we go right back into our normal routines when it passes. What does He have to do to wake us?
So many people asked, "Where was God? How could He let this happen?" God didn't do this to us. He's a loving Father. We're given free will and the terrorists made the choice to kill innocent people. I'm sure they didn't find hundreds of virgins waiting for them. They came face to face with their Maker Who gave them the fifth Commandment, "You Shall Not Kill."
There's evil around us everyday. Either we are blind to it or we choose to ignore it. God has blessed and bestowed our country with many gifts. Our wars are far from home but our security is gone. It'll never be the same. Every time we visit large cities, travel by air, train or subway, our hearts will turn to prayer once again out of fear. We'll long for God's protection.
Our world and lives would be so different if we stayed on the holy track. Humans are weak and forget easily. The poor families who had lost a loved one in this tragedy know what prayer is about. Why? Because they were affected. They look at the empty spot that had once been filled by that special person who was taken from them...day after day...year after year.
If we don't start filling the churches, turn back to prayer, live our faith and teach our children about Jesus, this may be the beginning of heartbreak in our families. God isn't asking much from us. It doesn't matter what our religion is, he waits for all of His children to return to him.
So, on this special day of remembrance, lets pray before the day ends for all the lost souls who perished from the evil act of terrorism.
